Mari Durward-Akhurst’s round up of a very successful year

I am so lucky to have two superstar horses and a fantastic supportive team around me who are with me every step of the way. I have had an extremely successful year becoming national champion twice, getting selected for my first ever 3* and getting placed and finishing 2nd at the British Dressage Nationals. None of this would have been possible without my support team and all of my fantastic sponsors, who all mean so much to me and have supported me in different ways. Whilst I am very disappointed not to have been selected onto the World Class program this time, I am even more determined and striving forward towards Tokyo and future Paralympics. Now more than ever I am trying to find a financial sponsor, a Physiotherapist/ Sports Therapist and a Strength and conditioning coach to join my team, if you can help in any way please contact me. (Please feel free to contact Quingo and we will pass on any messages)

November has been fairly quiet in terms of competitions; with both boys winter qualifications complete. Our next competition will be next year. But we have been working hard and both boys have been going from strength to strength in their training. I received some fantastic news this month; delighted to receive a grant from Arctic ONE. I cannot thank them enough for all their support. I have really enjoyed attending the majority of the events run by them this year and will continue to do so. It is such a fantastic organisation that provides so many different people with so many different opportunities. I met so many inspirational people at the

I am absolutely delighted to be supported by Devoucoux. I can’t thank them and Pippie Polson enough. My new saddle which I rode in today for the first time is amazing. When I got in it I was literally lost for words and then the first word that came to me was wow! Everyone has commented on how well I sit in it and Bear loves it and carries me forwards! It allows him more freedom of movement. It is the first saddle that I have sat in that I feel 100% safe and happy in. Even better it takes my pain away which is amazing and it even allows me to have some feeling back, so I can feel Bears way of going which I normally can’t do. It was truly amazing to feel that as I haven’t before!

Right lots of exciting things to bring to you in next month’s blog such as my trip to Olympia.

Sky, Bear and I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
